Join the River Center on a search for wild treasures!
In April and May, the classes will focus on greeting the early spring flowers at low elevations as they begin to awake after winter.
The last three classes in June, July, and August will be explorations of higher elevations in the Deer Park area. You will observe how plant communities change throughout the season and witness the transformation from early bloomers to late bloomers, to setting seeds.
You will learn how to identify different species, look closely into nature, and enjoy the sounds, sights, and smells of our big, beautiful backyard.
Hikes will be led by wildflower expert John Bridge and Montana Napier, the Education Manager at the River Center. These classes are full day experiences. Bring layers, water, a lunch, and come prepared to carpool to the confluence of the Dungeness River and Gray Wolf River.
Please note these will be intermediate level hikes. While there is not much elevation gain, the trails can be narrow, footing can be challenging in some locations, and there are a few small obstacles (fallen logs, branches, roots, etc.) Distance traveled on foot each day will be about 2 miles.
This program counts as “Nature Knowledge” for your Nature Wellness Challenge stamp card.
