High Bluff Ecosystems Rock Walk at the Refuge

Organizer: Coastal Watershed Institute

Join us this November for two community workshops co-sponsored by the Coastal Watershed Institute (CWI), the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, and the Dungeness River Nature Center. Together they explore the form and function of high coastal bluffs – those spectacular shorelines just west of Dungeness Spit.

Presentation: Nov. 4, 6-8 p.m. at Dungeness River Nature Center
Rock Walk: Nov. 7, 8:30-10 a.m. at Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge

CWI representatives Dave Parks, an award-winning hydrogeologist and underwater photographer, and Nicole Harris, CWI senior education and policy representative, have spent decades working on coastal systems. Dave will cover the geologic history and evolution of the Dungeness bluffs, along with long-running research on bluff erosion rates in the Dungeness drift cell. Nicole will cover the ecosystem function of high bluff shorelines, including their importance for forage fish and salmon.

These workshops are free and open to the public, and no advance registration is required.
