Discover the fascinating world of native bees!

Join us this spring for a NEW three-part series designed to immerse you in nature while exploring the diverse and essential native bee populations of our region. Each month, you’ll venture into the field with bee specialist Ingrid Carmean and River Center educators to observe bees in their natural habitats and learn how you can help protect these vital pollinators. Beeee prepared to see them up close! Hand lens provided.

Location: River Center / Marlyn Nelson County Park

May 2 | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Location: River Center / Dungeness Recreation Area

June 6 | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

What to Expect:

Each walk begins at the Dungeness River Nature Center before traveling to a featured field location in the community to search for native bee species. Participants will carpool from the River Center to that month’s site.

  • Learn to identify native bee species
  • Discover the plants and habitats that support them
  • Gain practical tips to support native bee populations at home

Come prepared to walk trails and explore off the beaten path in search of bee species!

About Ingrid Carmean:

When Ingrid was about 10, she lived in Washington State and had a Bumblebee collection. Now, 60 years later, she’s collecting bees again and living in Washington State.  Between these points in  time she received a B.S. in Entomology, ran a pest control business in Central California, retired, spent 2 years in the Peace Corps in Peru. She currently serves on the board for Washington Native Bee Society and is a Journey-level Master Melittologist.
