OPAS Backyard Birding: “Bird Nesting and the Great Backyard Bird Count”

Presented by Ken Wiersema and Ben Hannah

Saturday, February 7, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to noon

Rainshadow Hall at Dungeness River Nature Center

Suggested donation: $5

The February OPAS Backyard Birding program explores bird nesting, local nest types by species, early breeding‑season behavior, and preparation for the National Audubon & Cornell Lab Great Backyard Bird Count. With spring approaching, presenters Ken Wiersema and Ben Hannah will lead this updated and informative session.

Participants will learn how local species choose nesting sites, build their nests, form pair bonds, and share parenting roles. The program also includes a practical “how‑to” walk‑through for birdwatchers of all ages and skill levels, encouraging participation in the Great Backyard Bird Count on February 13–16, 2026.

A short primer on using the eBird app—an essential tool for reporting bird sightings—will round out the session.

Admission to this program is free. However, we ask attendees to consider a donation of $5.00 per person to support ongoing OPAS education and conservation programs. Thanks for your support and interest!
