Intermediate and Easy hikes are both available during the month of April!

Register for Intermediate (April) hikes here

Dates: April 22, April 23 / 9am-3pm
Location: Lower Dungeness (carpool from River Center)
Level: Moderate
Cost per class: $30 DRNC members / $40 non-members

Join the River Center on a search for wild treasures!

In this series, you will learn how to identify native plants and observe how plant communities change throughout the season. Witness the transformation from early bloomers to late bloomers, to setting seeds. Feel free to sign-up for a walk each month or attend only one!

In April and May, the walks will focus on greeting the early spring flowers at low elevations as they begin to awake after winter. The last three sessions in June, July, and August will be explorations of higher elevations in the Deer Park area.

Hikes will be led by wildflower expert John Bridge and Montana Napier, the Education Manager at the River Center. These classes are full day experiences, starting at 9am at the River Center and ending at 3pm. Bring layers, water, a lunch, and come prepared to carpool to the confluence of the Dungeness River and Gray Wolf River. More detailed instructions will be emailed to participants.

You will learn how to identify different species, look closely into nature, and enjoy the sounds, sights, and smells of our big, beautiful backyard!

Please note April 22nd and 23rd will be intermediate level hikes. While there is not much elevation gain, the trails can be narrow, footing can be challenging in some locations, and there are a few small obstacles (fallen logs, branches, roots, etc.) Distance traveled on foot each day will be about 2 miles.

An easier hike is available on April 24th, with flatter terrain and more alternative options!

Register for Easy hikes here

Dates: April 24, May 15 / 1-3pm
Location: carpool from River Center
Cost per class: $10 DRNC members / $15 non-members

For the second year in a row, we will offer an easier walk on the Dungeness Trails / The Hatchery in Sequim as an alternative option to our intermediate wildflower walks in the Lower Dungeness. There are tons of wildflowers and plants to check-out, but more ways to make the trip accessible. We will work with the group to map out a route, including the distance. Note: although the trails are level and flat they are not ADA.
