Ediz Hook Field Trip
Leader: Kathy McCoy
Date and Time: Saturday, November 16, 9 AM-12PM+
Participant limit: 15 – Registration required.
Cost: Free
Meeting Place: From downtown, go west on Front Street. It will become Marine Drive. Continue west past the harbor, through the mill (where it becomes Ediz Hook Road), to the end of the road at the Coast Guard Station. Restrooms are near the end of Ediz Hook.
Features: We will do some walking through logs onto the beach and may scramble over rocks. This isn’t rigorous, but it may require sure-footedness! We will be looking for Black-bellied Plovers, Harlequin Ducks, loons, murres, cormorants and trying to decipher the gulls. Please expect a collaborative adventure; I may or may not be able to tell you what a certain gull is, but I will help you find them and puzzle them out. We may also stop to admire otters.
We will hopscotch back inland, taking a look for Long-tailed Ducks and a Peregrine Falcon near the mill. If we have time we may explore some other spots on the waterfront as well for a different view of the same area.
Bring: Binoculars, scope, and appropriate clothing for the weather; it is often cold and windy there.
Liability Form: We ask field trip participants to sign a liability release form on or before the day of the trip. This signed form will be good for future field trips. You can review, download, and print the form in advance by visiting the Field Trips page on the OPAS website or clicking here. You can also eSign the liability release form by clicking here.
Note: A waitlist has been enabled for this trip. If you need to cancel your reservation, please email [email protected].
