River Study Field Trip
Time: 3-4 hours
Ages: 5th Grade
Location: Classroom visit and on-site field trip at the river

This immersive field trip engages students in an inquiry-based study on river ecosystems and salmon habitat. Students will suit up in rubber boots and head down to the Dungeness River to collect and identify aquatic insects, using them as indicators of water quality and ecosystem resilience. The program weaves scientific investigation with cultural connections to the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, helping students understand both the ecological and cultural importance of healthy rivers. A preparatory classroom visit is included as part of the experience.
Bridge to Birding
Time: 60–90 minutes
Ages: K–8th Grade, Homeschool
Location: River Center or off-site classroom visit
Price: $100 per hour suggested donation
Our Bridge to Birding lessons introduce students to the wonderful world of birds through hands-on exploration and interactive learning. Students will learn what makes a bird a bird, practice using binoculars, and discover what birds eat through an owl pellet dissection. Each program also includes a bird-themed storytime to spark curiosity, helping young learners develop a deeper connection to local wildlife.
Junior Naturalists
Time: 60-90 minutes
Ages: K-5th Grade, Homeschool
Location: River Center or off-site classroom visit
Price: $100 per hour suggested donation
Each Junior Naturalist features a nature lesson, followed by a fun craft activity or experiment that allows your kids to explore and express their understanding of the natural world. Topics include watershed science, seasonal changes, wildlife, salmon, local ecology, plant identification, observation skills, and more.

- The appropriate grade-level range is provided next to the program and can be further tailored for the specific grade level of your students.
- Scholarships are available and granted on school need and current availability of funds. You can request financial assistance by emailing [email protected]. This may include coverage of bus fees.
- Custom programs are available based on staffing. The price is $100 per hour suggested donation and covers up to ~25 students.
